The NBA is once again stepping up for autism acceptance—this time with even more visibility and support. Back for its second season, the Custom Sneaker Campaign, led by Utah Jazz Assistant Coach Scott Morrison and his wife Susanne, is making powerful strides in raising awareness and funding for autism. Every NBA head coach, along with Commissioner Adam Silver, select broadcasters, and former players, will be seen courtside this April sporting specially designed sneakers that honor individuals with autism.

The initiative, originally launched in 2024, is a deeply personal one for the Morrisons, whose son Max was diagnosed with autism in 2022. Their nonprofit, To The Max Foundation, is at the heart of this effort, ensuring that proceeds from the campaign directly benefit autism-related causes. This year, more than 60 pairs of custom sneakers, created by Salt Lake City’s JSM 801 Customs, will go up for auction through Sotheby’s between May 13–20.

Autism Takes Center Court in the NBA

Fans watching NBA games from April 2–9 will notice something special on the sidelines: bold, custom sneakers in team colors, each infused with meaning and symbolism for the autism community. Utah Jazz Head Coach Will Hardy was among the first to debut his pair, kicking off a series of themed games—including a major celebration of Autism Acceptance at Delta Center on April 9.

These events don’t just aim to raise money—they aim to foster a culture of inclusion and understanding. As autism continues to affect millions of families across the country, campaigns like these help normalize neurodiversity in everyday conversations—and in this case, on one of the world’s biggest sports stages.
